Labfit Soil Testing Machines

The Challenge:

Labfit manufacture complex measurement instruments for scientific laboratories. Labfit required a software application to be the user interface for their range of AS3000 pH/EC measurement systems. The software needed to driver a 3 axis robot, take readings from a variety of pH meters, drive a range of pump types, import test data from a LIMS database, report test data to file, and more. The system needed to allow for quality samples, multiple methods, multiple data specs, and also perform high-accuracy automated acid titration measurements.

The Solution:

Wired-in used LabVIEW with DQMH to re-write an out-dated and difficult to expand legacy software application. The software screens were designed by Labfit, and implemented by the Wired-in dev team. Extensive testing onsite was required to ensure the comprehensive feature set was functional and reliable. The solution can handle the many and varied machine combinations, in terms of meter types and quanitities, pump types and quantities, and backwards compatiability with different motion control firmware versions. DQMH allowed parallel development and a good way to manage the many asynchronous processes required to run the system. Wired-in have now developed software for three Labfit machines, and more to come.
